Melissa Berryman

As a former animal officer Melissa Berryman witnessed every
failure imaginable between dogs, their owners and her community. Drawing from those experiences and knowledge
of canine and human behavior Ms. Berryman crafted the People Training for Good
Dogs program to help owners incorporate the canine point of view into their
handling skills. Current understanding
leads owners to believe that they have a passive role in the
dog/owner/community relationship.
Breeders market their breeds for sales.
Dog trainers are not obligated to emphasize public safety or teach students
how normal canine behavior can clash with today's society. Ms.
Berryman draws important comparisons from horses and brings to light the
consequences of expecting dogs to act and react like people do. Instead she offers a foundation that reflects
predatory canine ecology. Dog owners can then build sounder handling
techniques that are more in line with the challenges they will face today
owning a dog. Staying true to the ways
of dogs, she begins with a foundational exercise and offers a method of
positive and negative feedback that can dramatically improve any owner's level
of control. By speaking frankly about aggression and injuries she developed an
accessible template from which anyone can fully read and diffuse potentially
disastrous situations. Amusingly written
for her students you too can benefit from Ms. Berryman's method of clear
feedback designed to achieve off-leash vocal control.
